Living with a disability in Devonport

If you’re living with a disability in Devonport, the services and resources we provide can make a big difference to your quality of life. We’re working with local people with disabilities, families, carers, service providers and support organisations to make Devonport a more inclusive, more welcoming community.

Disability Inclusion Plan

Council have developed our Disability Inclusion Plan 2020 – 2025 which outlines our committment to build an engaged community which promotes and vales diversity and equity. The Disability Inclusion Plan 2020-2025 is also available in an Easy Read version. 

The Plan was developed through community feedback, data collection and reviews of best practice. We will undertake actions in four key focus areas:  

  1. Participation and Inclusion
  2. Communication and Awareness
  3. Buildings and Facilities
  4. Parking and Mobility.

The Access and Inclusion Working Group works with Council to:

  • Support Council staff achieve the objectives of the Disability Inclusion Plan 2020-2025
  • Provide advice to Council on matters relating to persons with disabilities
  • Provide advice on access and inclusion policy development
  • Support efforts to attract funding and other resources in accordance with identified needs and strategic direction

Accessibility

Devonport City Council is committed to ensuring people with disability are able to navigate our city and access services and facilities in the community.

Disabled Parking

Holders of an Australian Disability Parking Permit are entitled to increased parking timeframes, when the permit holder is leaving the vehicle & the permit is correctly displayed within the parked vehicle.

Concession Parking

Devonport residents receiving an aged, service or disability pension who are also the registered owner of a vehicle, are entitled to a free parking permit.

To arrange for your parking permit please visit Council. You’ll need to provide proof of your address, your pension status and a copy of your vehicle registration papers.
