Smoking

Recent changes to the Public Health Act 1997 mean that certain areas and events are now required to be smoke free zones.  This change has occurred to further protect Tasmanians from harmful second-hand tobacco smoke.

Events

If you are planning an event you will need to ensure that you comply with the new Smoke-free Public Events Guidelines.

Devonport City Council can assist with determining any requirements, but the organiser must contact the Department of Health and Human Services to submit their smoke free plan.

Smoke-Free Areas

Smoke free areas include playgrounds, sporting facilities, outside dining and bus stops.  To obtain a full listing of smoke free areas click here.

If you require further information you can contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 or Devonport City Council’s Environmental Health Department on 03 6424 0511.
