Sports Infrastructure Community Survey
The Devonport City Council is seeking community input on the key issues, needs and opportunities to improve the use of Council owned sports facilities across the city. Feedback will be used to help develop a Master Plan which will establish a strategic direction for sports infrastructure over the next 15+ years.
The survey can be accessed here (survey opens Monday, 21 September 9am),
Participation in sport contributes to the development of healthy, cohesive, resilient, liveable, and strong communities. To maintain and grow the current levels of participation in Devonport and the region, we need to plan for places where people of all ages and abilities can participate in a wide range of sports.
Council is focusing on capital works(building type) projects and any potential strategic changes to the management of Council owned infrastructure and land where sport is played. Types of infrastructure includes:
- Outdoor sport facilities including playing fields, ovals and courts
- Indoor sport facilities
- Indoor/outdoor aquatic facilities
- Multi-use sporting hubs
- Amenities and facilities associated with the above
The Plan will not make recommendations on public open space or passive recreation infrastructure (e.g. outdoor gym equipment, paths), developing individual clubs or improving private and other government owned facilities. There may however be some consideration of these elements to inform the overall direction.
A project working group has been established to assist Council in developing a future sporting plan. The group will review community feedback and recommend options to improve sports infrastructure. The group includes representatives from the Devonport Cricket Club, Devonport Netball Association, Devonport City Soccer Club, Basketball Tasmania, Tennis Tasmania, Communities Tasmania, along with Devonport City Council elected members and staff.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey, as your input is
valued and will be used to help shape the future of sports facilities in Devonport.
The survey will close 5pm Monday 5 October 2020.
