Little Gallery Emerging Artists Program Opens Call for Submissions

The Devonport Regional Gallery is excited to announce the launch of the Little Gallery 2024 Emerging Artists Program, inviting emerging and early career Tasmanian artists to submit their applications to participate in the prestigious program.

Named in honour of Jean Thomas, a pioneer who established the first public gallery on the North West Coast in 1966, the Little Gallery Emerging Artist Program continues her legacy by providing a platform for emerging Tasmanian artists to exhibit alongside established local, national, and international artists.

“The program aims to support emerging Tasmanian artists who demonstrate innovation and experimentation in their practice” said Convention and Arts Centre Manager, Geoff Dobson.

“Our visitors have consistently been impressed with the program, which has showcased a huge range of artistic works, from paintings and prints to sculptures and installations. The standard of work has been truly outstanding,” Mr Dobson said.

Some highlights from the 2023 program included the curious and enchanting paintings by CiCi Zhang in her exhibition Time to Pick a Star, and the tender and haunting installation work by Chloe Bonney exploring local abandoned sites in her exhibition Remnants

Applications are open to individuals as well as groups working in all media forms. Mr Dobson added “This year five applicants will be selected. Each exhibition will run for a period of 4-6 weeks throughout 2024, providing artists with a unique opportunity to connect with the community and share their vision.”

Anyone interested in applying can do so via the link on the paranaple arts centre and Devonport City Council’s websites and socials: https://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/council/forms-and-payments/little-gallery-emerging-artists-application-form/

Applications close: MONDAY 9th October 2023
