Business registration and licence extensions

Mobile Food Van

On 27 May 2020 the Tasmanian Premier, Peter Gutwein, announced one-off extensions to the expiry dates of SOME classes of registrations/licences under the Food Act 2003 and the Public Health Act 1997. To ensure clarity for all types of registration/licence holders in the Devonport area, details are provided below:

Food Businesses

  • Food business registrations (including mobile food vans) due to expire on 30 June 2020 are automatically extended until 31 December 2020. Businesses can expect to receive their usual renewal documentation from Council in late November 2020.
  • Temporary food business registrations (eg: barbecue stalls) with an expiry date between 27 May 2020 and 27 November 2020 are automatically extended for a further 6 months beyond the expiry date stated on the Certificate of Registration. Renewal documents are not routinely sent out for these registrations, meaning it is up to the applicant to approach Council to renew their registration once expired.

Public Health Risk Activities

  • Tattooing and piercing business registrations due to expire on 30 June 2020 are automatically extended until 31 December 2020. Businesses can expect to receive their usual renewal documentation from Council in late November 2020.
  • Tattooing and piercing operator licences due to expire on 30 June 2020 are automatically extended until 31 December 2020. Operators can expect to receive their usual renewal documentation from Council in late November 2020.

Regulated Systems

  • Cooling tower registrations will expire as normal on 30 June 2020, as no extension has been declared by the State Government. Businesses can expect to receive their usual renewal documentation from Council in July 2020.

Private Water Carriers

  • Water carrier registrations will expire as normal on 30 June 2020, as no extension has been declared by the State Government. Businesses can expect to receive their usual renewal documentation from Council in July 2020.

Be advised that Council WILL NOT be sending out amended registrations and licences to those businesses included in the extension. As this declaration has been made by the Premier at a state level, all local councils are aware of the extensions and must honour registrations/licences that fit into the extension provisions.

Should you have any queries or concerns regarding these extensions, please contact Council’s Environmental Health team at council@devonport.tas.gov.au or on (03) 6424 0511.
