Devonport’s Bass Strait Maritime Centre is proud to announce the opening of its latest exhibition, Bass Strait: Above, Below, and In-between, running from February 26th to April 28th, 2024.
About the Exhibition: A collaborative story-telling exhibition from eight Tasmanian museums, who have never worked together before, each with a unique connection to Bass Strait. This unusual exhibition invites visitors to delve into stories intrinsically connected to the enigmatic Bass Strait, through a series of specially designed, story-telling banners and curated objects.
Featuring contributions from eight Tasmanian museums, each connected to Bass Strait, this exhibition provides a journey through the region’s social, natural, scientific, and familial histories, with each museum bringing their unique regional perspectives.
Message from the Coordinator: “This project has been much more than an exhibition; it’s been a catalyst for collaboration, learning and connection with other museums and audiences in our region.” remarked Joanna Gair, Coordinator at Bass Strait Maritime Centre.
“The result is an eye-opening, story-led exhibition, that will tour to each of these museums as we share a connected experience.”
For school groups, this exhibition offers a unique educational opportunity to explore Australia’s very own Bermuda Triangle. “I like to think of each banner as a chapter in a book written especially for North West Tasmanians,” said Gair. “Eyebrows will be raised, and curiosity piqued.”
