Devonport’s Access and Inclusion Working Group seeks members

Devonport City Council is calling upon community members to make a positive impact by joining the Access and Inclusion Working Group. This is an opportunity to actively contribute to shaping the city and fostering inclusivity.

Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman announced that expressions of interest for the working group have reopened, with two additional members being sought. The group specifically welcomes Devonport residents with disabilities or their immediate carer/support person, as well as representatives from recognised advocacy organisations dedicated to supporting residents.

“We urge community members who aspire to shape our city in a positive way to get in touch with us today,” said Mayor Jarman. “Council plays a vital role in supporting, encouraging, facilitating, and advocating for community participation to foster greater inclusion.”

Joining the working group presents a rewarding experience, enabling advocacy on behalf of individuals with disabilities to ensure an inclusive community that recognises the challenges faced by its members and how these may be overcome.

Mayor Jarman emphasised that Council’s Disability Inclusion Plan 2020-25 focuses on actions identified by people with disabilities, community stakeholders, and Council itself.

The plan targets four key areas:

• participation and inclusion

• communication and awareness

• buildings and facilities, and

• parking and mobility.

Individuals interested in expressing their interest should carefully review the Terms of Reference, which can be found on the Council’s website at https://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/council/your-council/special-interest-groups/

By actively participating in the Access and Inclusion Working Group, Devonport residents can contribute to a more inclusive and welcoming community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference. For more information about the event please visit www.devonport.tas.gov.au
