Community submissions sought for budget

As planning commences for the upcoming 2024/25 financial year budget, Council invites community members to contribute their ideas and suggestions for consideration. Community insights are invaluable in shaping the priorities and allocations that will guide Council’s budget for the upcoming financial year.

This is an opportunity for the public to actively participate in the decision-making process, ensuring that the budget reflects the needs and aspirations of the Devonport community.

Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman said the budget consultation process, conducted annually, enables the community to have their say on the budget, and where they would like to see funds allocated.

“Whether you have suggestions for infrastructure improvements, social programs, environmental initiatives, or any other area that you believe requires attention, we want to hear from you. Your input can influence the direction of our community and contribute to making Devonport an even better place to live,” Cr Jarman said.

“We look forward to receiving your thoughtful contributions and working together to create a budget that reflects the priorities of our vibrant community. Your engagement is crucial in shaping the future of our City, with community input.”

“Community members can visit Speak Up Devonport on Council’s website, or lodge a submission via email or form, to submit their ideas and suggestions that will help shape the delivery of future projects, infrastructure and activities.”

Cr Jarman said the budget consultation process is integral to understanding where the community would like the budget directed and has formed a critical component of the budget development process for a number of years.

Ideas can be submitted through Speak Up Devonport, by emailing [email protected], by completing a form available from Council’s Customer Service Centre or in writing to PO Box 604, Devonport, Tas, 7310.

Submissions can be made until 5pm on Wednesday, 28 February 2024.
