Mayor’s Message – 08 October 2019

Mayor’s Message – 08 October 2019

The Devonport City Council is once again gearing up to celebrate Seniors Week within the Devonport region with the largest calendar of events ever produced for the weeklong celebration, from 14-20 October.

Council has worked with several organisations to provide a broad range of activities and events to suit all seniors within the Devonport community.

The calendar is jam-packed with over 50 events for seniors to attend. Some events do require booking in advance and payment while others are drop in on the day and free.

The program has been designed specifically to be low cost and offers a wide range of activities to cater for all seniors within the community.

Activities include fitness classes, a river cruise on the Julie Burgess, information sessions including navigating the Multi-level car park and using Word and other computer programs, a chance for seniors to get their hair done and enjoy a high tea and a ratepayers luncheon for those ratepayers who have paid rates for 50 plus years.

The full program of events can be downloaded from Council’s website or Facebook page.

For further information please contact, Community Services at Devonport City Council on 6424 0511.

Three successful local men will speak at the Devonport City Council’s inaugural International Men’s Day luncheon next month.

Dominic Peters, Justin Delanty and James Leslie will share their experiences at the paranaple convention centre from midday on Tuesday 19 November.

Tickets are $30 per person, which includes a two-course lunch and they can be purchased online at

Dominic has been working in the Tasmanian Health Service for the past 14 years and his passion is men’s health. His role is to support individuals and families with a health condition.

He was heavily involved in the establishment of the Devonport Men’s Shed and Men’s Resources Tasmania and also coordinates the “PitStop” program across the Coast highlighting important health issues in a fun way.

Justin, who has had 35 years’ experience in the finance industry, holding senior positions within the banking and mortgage sectors, is the Managing Director of local finance brokers Lending4U and president of the East Devonport Football Club.

James has had over 10 years in the Real Estate Industry and over that time has gone from sales into management and eventually into owning his own Agency.

After spending time owning a franchise business, he chose to sell out and start his own independent brand, Hudson365.  The direction of his new business is to create a legacy and build something that was not only about selling houses, but “to give back to the community so we can all thrive”.
