Devonport City Council Launches Public Consultation on Events Strategy

Devonport City Council invites community feedback on its ambitious and forward-thinking draft Devonport Events Strategy 2024-2030, now open for public consultation through Speak Up Devonport. This comprehensive strategy outlines a clear vision for transforming Devonport into a premier regional event destination, leveraging its unique coastal charm and vibrant community spirit.

Mayor Alison Jarman enthusiastically shares, “Our city continues to undergo a positive transformation, with successive Councils and our passionate community driving our vision to be a thriving, welcoming regional city. Events are a crucial element of this transformation, encapsulating our strengths, values, and identity, and sharing these with the world.”

The Devonport Events Strategy 2024-2030 aims to create a conducive environment for high-quality events, that yield social, cultural, and economic benefits, enhancing Devonport’s reputation as a leading event hub. It aims to develop local event capabilities, and clearly define the Council’s role in shaping the city’s event landscape.

“By 2030, we envision an engaging events portfolio featuring arts, cultural, sporting, and leisure events, including at least one annual signature event that showcases our uniqueness,” Mayor Jarman adds. “Event organisers will find Devonport an attractive location, given our contemporary facilities and stunning natural settings, coupled with the ease of planning and execution.”

“Devonport is perfectly positioned to achieve our 2030 event aspirations and it’s an exciting time for us moving forward. Our city is known for quality events, centrally located in Tasmania, with diverse venues and vibrant open spaces. Our community’s rich cultural diversity and strong sense of connection make us a proud and welcoming community, poised to elevate our events to new heights and reinforce Devonport’s appeal as a place to live, work, visit, and invest.”

Mayor Jarman encourages community involvement in the consultation process: “I urge everyone involved or impacted by events – attendees, organisers, vendors, performers, volunteers, sponsors, and local businesses – to review the Strategy and its recommendations.”

Devonport City Council is committed to supporting the implementation of festivals, events, and attractions in alignment with the Events Strategy, marking it as a term priority.
The public consultation will close 9am on Monday 26 February 2024.
