Council seeks community input into Strategic Plan review

Council at its June 2023 Council meeting noted the revised Strategic Plan 2009-2030 and endorsed its release for a 30-day public consultation period.

The current Strategic Plan was originally adopted in 2009 and formally reviewed in 2014 and 2019, requiring review every 4 years in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993.

Council is seeking community feedback on the revised Strategic Plan to ensure it continues to align with community sentiment, aspirations and priorities and the achieving of the community’s vision for the city.

A review of the vision and mission concluded they both remained relevant and representative.  The vision and mission statements were developed with significant community input, and as such reflect the community’s direction for Devonport.

Values, forming part of the Strategic Plan have been modified to align with Council’s operational values. These reflect the original values broadly, and include:

  • Champion and respect one another – We respect and cheer one another working together to serve the community;
  • Dedication to our customers and community – We are driven to understand the needs of our customers so we can connect them to the right solutions; and

  • Pioneer positive improvement – We chase innovation and improvement so we can keep getting better.

 Within the Strategic Plan, Council had established key goals, outcomes and strategies, and develop actions annually, forming part of the Annual Plan, which provide direction for the achievement of Council’s strategic goals and objectives.

Mayor Alison Jarman said, “The community consultation period provides Devonport residents with the opportunity to make comment on the Strategic Plan and how the Plan will continue to work to support the achievement of Devonport’s strategic objectives.”

“Council’s Strategic Plan is a living document that evolves with our community. Public participation in the consultation process will help Council gauge sentiment on its strategic goals and ensure that it continues to guide us in shaping a brighter future”, Cr Jarman said.

Council will undertake consultation via various means, including an online survey via Speak Up Devonport – Speak Up Devonport, Council’s website – www.devonport.tas.gov.au  social media, media release, via email – [email protected] – or written correspondence addressed to Council at PO Box 604 Devonport TAS 7310.

Hard copies of the Strategic Plan and survey can also be obtained from Council’s Customer Services, level 2, paranaple centre, 137 Rooke Street or by calling 03 6424 0511.

Paper copies are also available at the Devonport Community House, 10 Morris Avenue, Devonport, and the East Devonport Child and Family Centre, 40 Drew Street, East Devonport.

Community feedback is being sought until 5pm, Tuesday 1 August 2023.
