Skate Park Development Update

For the past 18 months the Devonport Skate Park Committee has been working hard to ensure the youth of Devonport have an excellent multi-purpose skate park.  As part of this process extensive community consultation has been carried out, researching the needs of the users of the facility.  A project plan was developed, covering issues such as determining the level of participation and demand for the facility, design, resourcing, fundraising, construction, management and maintenance.

Council has committed $187,000 of Federal Government funding to the project as well as allocating $75,000 from its Capital Works budget. Additional funding support has also been received from the State Government ($59,903) and the City of Devonport Lions Club ($20,000).

Stage 1 of the skate park facility's development has already commenced with the construction of the skate bowl currently in progress.  It is anticipated that the skate bowl will be completed by mid-to-late January, with Stage 2 likely to commence at the end of the school holidays in February.

Council is in the process of finalising the concept design for Stage 2 construction with the steering committee.
