Stage 1 - Surf Life Saving Club & Associated Amenities

Looking Forward
Devonport Surf Life Saving Precinct is set to show a fresh face to the world as the city's beachfront precinct becomes home to a state of the art facility with fine dining, café and wet foot shop for the kids.  The Surf Club will gain first class operational facilities and club rooms that will set a new standard for the city's recreational spaces.  The two buildings will ensure that people of Devonport can enjoy their beach in excitingly fresh surrounds. The Community Consultation undertaken on the recent Urban Design Framework for the Mersey Bluff showed strong community support for a re-development of the Surf Life Saving Club. Council moved swiftly to plan this much needed renovation and in January 2009, adopted a concept plan for the Surf Club redevelopment as a major project for 2009/2010. The Federal Government committed $1m towards the construction of the facilities in their Better Regions Program. Council aims to open the new facility in October 2010.

Edward Street Redevelopment Opportunity

Devonport City Council has identified an exciting opportunity for the private redevelopment of a strategically located parcel of land in the Devonport CBD. The identified development site is located in Edward Street, one block behind the Rooke Street Mall, on the site of an existing Council owned carpark.  The Council has expressed a continuing need for enhanced public parking and a physical pedestrian link to the mall with an active and vital retail layer on the ground floor to complement the existing businesses in the street.

Council encourages a fresh new approach to city development and believes the site has good potential for mixed use retail and business development. Interested companies are asked to contact Council's Strategic Projects Team on (03) 6424 0511 to request relevant information.

Core CBD Large Scale Development Opportunity

Devonport City Council has plans for a major identified development opportunity in the city.  The proposed development site incorporates part of the previously named Riverside Plaza site, including the temporary carpark on the old Coles site (bordered by Best Street, Formby Road and Harris Scarfe) as well as the Rooke Street car park and some surrounding properties. Council sees the development of the precinct as a progressive and long-sighted approach to future growth for Devonport by meeting energetic and progressive Guiding Principles aimed at achieving the best possible long term social, economic and environmental outcomes for the residents of Devonport.
