Treat to Eat

As part of the 2020 Seniors Week celebrations, Council is teaming up with community partners and service providers to support elderly residents in the community with care packages.

Each year, Devonport City Council produces a Seniors Week calendar with assistance from community partners and service providers. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it is not business as usual this year and therefore the 2020 calendar of events will look quite different.

Many elderly residents in the community have been self-isolating and doing it tough throughout the COVID crisis, so this year, as part of the Seniors Week calendar, Council will be running ‘A Treat to Eat’ whereby the community will be asked to donate non-perishable food items or toiletries throughout the month of September.

Drop off points for donations include:

  • Spreyton IGA
  • East Devonport FoodWorks
  • Devonport Library
  • Devonport City Council Customer Service – Level 2, paranaple centre
The donated items will be made into care packages for seniors within the Devonport community and distributed to service providers for delivery during Seniors Week, which runs from 12 – 18 October.
Devonport City Council Mayor, Councillor Annette Rockliff encourages people to get involved and donate if they can.
“We appreciate that it has been a tough year for many elderly residents in our community, and this is a great way of showing our support to them”, said Cr Rockliff. Rockliff.
Council will be encouraging schools, childcare centres, churches, sporting clubs and service clubs to get involved and donate non-perishable items.
