Great ideas welcome for Seniors’ Week

Have you got a great idea to help celebrate this year’s Seniors’ Week in Devonport?

Get in touch with Devonport City Council’s Community Services team, which is looking to work with local organisations for the annual celebration from 17-23 October.

Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff said the week provides the perfect opportunity to celebrate those in the community that may identify as “senior” but are young at heart.

Cr Rockliff said with this year’s theme being “enrich” there are plenty of ways this could be interpreted, and all ideas are welcome.

“The people of Devonport have been great at celebrating our seniors through a jam-packed calendar of events, and we’re hoping this year is no different,” Cr Rockliff said.

“We’re looking to hear from anyone that is keen to help provide a wide range of things to do, designed specifically to be low cost and to cater for diverse interests.

“If you’re a community group or service provider that wants to get behind this year’s Seniors Week then please get in touch with Council today.”

Cr Rockliff said Council will host a Morning Tea on Thursday, 20 October from 9-11am at the Devonport Soccer Club. Guest speakers include Dr Catherine Broun (Citizen of the Year) and Carla Pizzirani (Diamonds of Devonport Ambassador), while Devonport Youth Advisory Group (DEVYAG) members will provide entertainment and serve tea and coffee.

She said other events locked in for this year include The Great Tenors Dedicated to the ‘’Big 3’’ (Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras) at the Town Hall Theatre and a free screening of The Duke by the North West Film Society.

The Devonport Online Access Centre is again supporting Seniors’ Week by offering a range of information sessions on how to use computers and various programs.
