R U OK? Day 2020

R U Ok?Day is Thursday 10th September 2020. It is the national day of action when Australians are reminded that every day is the day to ask, ‘Are you ok?’

2020 has been a challenging year for many in our community; we have had to learn how to operate in a world where social distancing is now the norm, and many have been required to self-isolate or to quarantine. These circumstances have made it more important than ever to promote the important messages of R U Ok? Day.

This year, the Devonport City Council has created a video featuring people who are passionate about making sure our community feels safe to ask each other, ‘R U Ok?’ and to highlight the support services that are available.
Devonport City Council Mayor, Councillor Annette Rockliff, is one of the people featured on the video.

“We can all make a difference to those who are struggling by having regular, meaningful conversations about life’s ups and downs. You don’t have to be an expert to have a caring, meaningful conversation, but it could be a conversation that may change a life”, Mayor Rockliff said.

By creating and sharing the video, Council hopes to increase the feeling of social connection in the community, and to promote the messages that inspire people to ask others if they are ok, and to know what to do if someone says they are not ok.

The video will be available to view on Council’s website, promoted on social media and shared on the Market Square TV screen.
