The exhibition, Portrait of a Place, featuring works by Tasmanian photographers included in the Devonport City Council’s permanent collection, will open in the Devonport Regional Gallery at 6 pm on Friday.
Portraiture, landscape photography and photographs of urban spaces are all included in the exhibition.
The works explore the natural Tasmanian environment, the urban spaces built within this environment, and how we create our own places within it.
Gallery Director Geoff Dobson said the exhibition also included works by Tasmanian photographers whose interests and experiences have drawn them overseas with the contrasting images highlighting the uniquely Tasmanian experience of place.
Artists featured are Julia Davis, Peter Dombrovskis, Lisa Garland, David Martin, Ricky Maynard, Geoffrey Parr, Troy Ruffels, Ilona Schneider and Brian Sollors. The exhibition has been curated by Erin Wilson
Mr Dobson said the Devonport City Council’s permanent collection included some 2000 works by significant Tasmanian contemporary practising artists.
“The represented art mediums are varied and include paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and electronic media.”
