In recent years Council has become aware of complaints from shopkeepers and shoppers about flooding occurring following heavy rain on the eastern side of the Fourways shopping precinct, particularly between the medical centre and the health shop,
Following an investigation, it was found that there was inadequate stormwater infrastructure and the capacity of the local drainage system was unable to cope with any significant deluge.
As a result, Council allocated $50,000 in its 2019/20 Capital Works budget to undertake improvements works, which are limited to the eastern side of William Street, at the kerb between the health shop and the medical centre.
Subject to weather conditions, the work is expected to begin on Monday 26 August and should be completed in three weeks.
The project involves removing 50m of kerb, installing a new stormwater main and two stormwater pits, reinstating the kerb to new levels and reinstating the pedestrian crossover, road edge and footpath. Footpath pavers will also be relaid to help prevent water ponding further to the south.

It was a great thrill to attend the opening of Reflections Café last Wednesday at the Senior Citizens’ Club on Victoria Parade.
Reflections aims to offer a friendly and safe environment for people living with dementia and their carers and judging by the crowd on the opening day it is bound to be a success!
It will be open between 10 am and midday every second Wednesday with the next day on 28 August.
Should enough support exist the café will consider opening every Wednesday.
Reflections is an initiative of the Munnew Day Centre, a division of Meercroft Care which supports those living with dementia and their carers. The Devonport City Council is supporting the initiative and funding has been received from the Lions Club of Devonport.
Local education institutions will be providing the food on a roster basis.

Reece High School will be holding a 50th Anniversary celebration Satuday 2 November 2019
It will start with a school tour followed by a dinner dance at the Devonport Waterfront Function Centre.
The dance band will be made up of former Reece High students.
Students and teachers who attended Reece High between 1960 and 1970 are invited to attend and their families.
