Seniors Week has just kicked off for another year and the Devonport City Council is once again celebrating the Week within the Devonport region in style with the largest calendar of events ever produced for the celebration.
Council has worked with several organisations to provide a broad range of activities and events to suit all seniors within the Devonport community.
The calendar is jam-packed with over 50 events for seniors to attend. Some events do require booking in advance and payment while others are drop in on the day and free.
The program has been designed specifically to be low cost and offers a wide range of activities to cater for all seniors within the community.

A reminder that Reece High School will be holding a 50th Anniversary celebration on Satuday 2 November 2019
It will start with a school tour followed by a dinner dance at the Devonport Waterfront Function Centre.
The dance band will be made up of former Reece High students.
Students and teachers who attended Reece High between 1960 and 1970 are invited to attend and their families.
There is a Facebook page and bookings can be made on Eventbrite.

Applications for the Devonport Regional Gallery’s Little Gallery Project Space are now open.
The Little Gallery Project Space Program is open to emerging Tasmanian artists whose projects are innovative and thought-provoking.
Projects must also address the Gallery’s mission to be the leading regional gallery of contemporary Tasmanian art, and inspire creativity and ideas through the arts.
Exhibitions will be displayed in the Little Gallery space of the paranaple arts centre in 2020 and will run for between four and six weeks. Applications are open to both individuals and groups.
The Little Gallery is named in honour of Jean Thomas. Jean’s vision for the Gallery was as a centre for community arts and activities which promoted the work of emerging and established Tasmanian artists alongside national and international artists.

I was saddened earlier this month to learn of the passing of Ron Dell and Niels Brun. Both men have made significant contributions to the fabric of our community and their loss will continue to be felt by many.
On behalf of Council and the wider community I offer condolences to their families and friends – and our thanks for sharing these wonderful men with us.
