Mayor’s Message – 15 July 2020

Council is seeking expressions of interest from interested sporting bodies to lease an area at the Devonport Recreation Centre [1] (formerly used by the Devonport Gymnastics Club).  Inspection of the area is by appointment and can be made by contacting Fabio Pizzirani – Sport and Recreation Development Coordinator on 6424 0511 or email [email protected] [2].  Further information is available on the website [3].  Applications close 24 July 2020 at 5:00pm.

The Bass Strait Maritime Centre [4] will reopen on Thursday 1 October.  Staff at the facility have been working tirelessly throughout the temporary closure, undertaking much needed work on the historic and social history collections in the care of the Centre.  Staff have also regularly been posting content to social media channels, providing behind the scenes insight into the extent of the collections, and will continue to do so until the centre reopens.

Council will again host a luncheon for residents who have been ratepayers in the City for more than 50 years.  This year the luncheon will be held Monday 12 October 2020 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at the paranaple convention centre, 3rd floor of the paranaple centre.

Bookings are essential.  Eligible residents should RSVP by Friday 2 October by calling Council customer Service on 6424 0511 or by email to [email protected] [5].

The Devonport Recreation Centre [6] has reopened for casual users between 9:30am – 2:30pm, Monday – Friday.

Ageing Stronger, Active Longer [7] recommenced at the Devonport Recreation Centre on 14 July 2020 and Tai Chi for Health [8] recommenced on 15 July.  For further details, contact the Devonport Recreation Centre on 6424 4109.
