Mayor’s Message – 12 May 2020

If you are anything like me, I am starting to wonder if the COVID-19 pandemic will ever end!

But take heart from the fact it will, and we will eventually be able to return to life as normal, or at least a new normal anyway.

The efforts of all our residents – and those in the rest of the State and nation – is why Australia has been able to flatten the curve so effectively.

Now is not the time for complacency, as we still have much work to do.

Both the State and Federal Government have produced a wealth of material to assist us all stay safe and I would like to share some of those with you.

To assist industry and workplaces to ensure that their operations are COVID-19 safe, Worksafe Tasmania has a comprehensive list of resources on their website.

You can find the information from the home page or by clicking here

A new guide to help employers manage the risk of infection and work health and safety risk during COVID-19 is also available.

Different states have different restrictions as part of their response to COVID-19.

The Australian Government has produced a fact sheet for older people who have an aged-care worker visiting them in their homes.

This is available on its website at https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/its-ok-to-have-home-care.

The Australian Government also recently launched the National COVID Older Persons Information Line (1800 171 866) to provide a one-stop source for personal support, questions and up-to-date guidelines.

Two of the popular resources Council is currently producing to assist the community stay connected are Wellness Wednesday and Fit Fridays.

Judging by the feedback I have received many people are finding them invaluable and I would encourage you to check them out as well.

Wellness Wednesdays is a weekly blog with tips and tricks to help the community stay well during this time.

It covers a range of different topics on positive steps that community members can put in place to help them through these difficult times.

You can find the link at https://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/live/your-community/community-services/wellness-wednesday/,

Council’s Recreation team is sharing videos of various exercises, from low impact aimed at the regular Ageing Stronger, Active Longer participants, to family fun activities and some for the regular athlete.

Fit Fridays can be found at https://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/live/your-community/community-services/fit-fridays/
