Mayor’s Message – 10 March 2020

I wish to thank all the community members who took the time to suggest projects as part of the Budget consultation process, which concluded on Monday 2 March.

In total 25 different community members suggested more than 60 projects which they considered were worthy of funding.

The projects included suggested road improvements, infrastructure work, upgrades to sporting facilities, beautification works for our parks and reserves, Providore Place, cycle path extensions and streetscape greening.

All will be considered as part of the Budget process.

Last year Council approved a $16.79 million capital works program, which included $1.32 million for public open space and recreation; $6.29 million for transport and $1.29 million for stormwater.

Some of those projects were suggested by community members as part of the 2019-2020 Budget consultation process.

Girls in Action Sports (GASP) is a study investigating why girls do and do not participate in action sports such as surfing, skateboarding and mountain biking.

Physical activity is good for our minds and our bodies so if we can better understand why young people do and do not participate in these sports, we may be able to find ways to help young people get involved in these or other sports or stay involved.

Any young person who would like to participate or has any questions about the study can call researcher Anita Oakley on 6226 4676 or email Anita at [email protected] [1]

Both boys and girls are being interviewed by telephone and it takes around 30 minutes.
