Smoking

Recent changes to the Public Health Act 1997 [1] mean that certain areas and events are now required to be smoke free zones.  This change has occurred to further protect Tasmanians from harmful second-hand tobacco smoke.

Events

If you are planning an event you will need to ensure that you comply with the new Smoke-free Public Events Guidelines [2].

Devonport City Council can assist with determining any requirements, but the organiser must contact the Department of Health and Human Services to submit their smoke free plan.

Smoke-Free Areas

Smoke free areas include playgrounds, sporting facilities, outside dining and bus stops.  To obtain a full listing of smoke free areas click here [3].

If you require further information you can contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 or Devonport City Council’s Environmental Health Department on 03 6424 0511.
