Smarter Parking in Market Square
Your Market Square Carpark is going gateless and ticketless.
This means, you’ll no longer need to wait at the boom gate to enter or leave the car park. And you won’t need to worry about keeping a paper ticket handy.
Instead, you’ll drive straight into the car park and either pay for your parking via an app (EasyPark) or use a meter to pay for your parking at the end of your stay.
Then, you’ll drive straight out again. No waiting, no paper tickets.
$6 all‑day roof level parking (8:30am-6:00pm). An additional $2 fee applies outside these hours.
To take advantage of this offer:
- customers must park on the roof level and
- ensure they make payment before leaving the roof level.
Payment can be made using either:
- the Easypark app with the separate zone number for the roof level (Easypark code 81245) or
- via coin or card at a new meter located on the roof level.
- out of hours use is charged at a different rate: $2 for Saturdays, Sundays and from 6.00pm – 8.30am daily.
Please note, if customers pay at other meters, on different levels, or use another Easypark code, they will be charged the full amount. Additionally, customers who leave the roof level without paying will receive an infringement.
PayStay and EasyPark are now available across Devonport. All paid parking areas use the same zone codes in both apps.
With the app, you can start and stop your parking session and only pay for the time you use. Using your phone gives you a timer that shows exactly when your parking will expire.
Each app has its own fees and terms – please review the Terms and Conditions before use. Available to download from the App Store or Google Play. These apps are not owned by Council and are offered as another way to pay for parking. Please contact the app providers directly for support.
Going Ticketless: How to Pay by the Meter
Gateless parking uses technology to scan your number plate, as well as the time and date your vehicle entered the car park.
When you want to leave the car park, you’ll simply enter your vehicle’s number plate into the meter when prompted and pay for your parking session by card or coin.
Alternatively, you can also pay by the EasyPark app. Just start your new parking session after parking your car.
With gateless parking, you’ll never need to wait behind a boom gate again! Gateless parking simplifies your parking experience. So you can park your car and get to where you need to be, fast. Plus, you won’t have to worry about losing a paper ticket either, as the technology is ticketless.
You’ll need to remember your vehicle registration (number plate) so you can pay for parking at the end of you stay.
You can pay for your parking with coins, credit or debit cards, or a smart device with Apple Pay or Google Pay.
If the screen is blank, it is in power-saving mode. To awaken, press ‘TOUCH HERE TO START’ underneath the touch screen then follow the steps below:
- Enter your vehicle number plate and press continue
- Review your number plate, entry time and amount to pay.
- If paying by coin, enter the exact amount of change needed to pay for your stay. Note, the meters don’t give change.
- If paying by card:
a. Choose ‘credit card’ as your payment method
b. Tap your debit/credit card or smart device on the meter’s black payWave square, underneath the touch screen. - Wait 3 to 5 seconds for the meter to process your payment
- If you would like an e-receipt, select ‘Yes, please’
- Use your mobile phone or smart device to either scan the QR code, or enter the URL and code that appears on screen, and press ‘Continue’ to download your e-receipt
- The transaction is now complete. The end screen displays the time your parking will finish.
PayStay
PayStay and EasyPark, two of Australia’s most popular parking payment apps, are now in operation in Market Square carpark.
Paying for parking with an app means you can start and stop your parking session, paying only for the exact time you park. Plus, using your phone instead of a parking meter gives you access to a timer with accurate information on when your parking will expire.
When parking in Market Square carpark, you also have the option of paying directly by coin or card at a parking meter, which does not require an app or smartphone.
Each app has its own fee structure and usage terms – please check the Terms and Conditions before downloading and using the app.
PayStay allows you to park your car at Market Square carpark without having to buy a ticket or deposit coins into a meter. Simply set up an account by downloading the PayStay App or register at www.paystay.com.au, or scan a PayStay Guest QR code.
PayStay app users must be registered. You can register via the PayStay app, available from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Alternatively, you can create an account at paystay.com.au/createaccount.
Payment without the requirement to register is available using the PayStay Guest feature, when you scan the QR code available on some parking meters.
You can also register through the PayStay Customer Service on 1300 322 111.
When you register for an account with PayStay you will be prompted to enter your credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay details. This is because your PayStay account holds funds to be used for your parking.
When your account balance falls below a minimum amount nominated by you (called the Low Balance Threshold), it tops itself up by debiting your saved payment method for an amount specified by you when you register (called the Top Up Amount).
If you don’t have a smartphone, you can use the SMS service or call PayStay’s friendly Australia-based contact centre on 1300 322 111 to arrange parking.
You’ll need to be registered for PayStay to use PayStay’s SMS service. You can register via the PayStay app, available from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, or you can create an account at paystay.com.au/createaccount.
To pay for parking via SMS, first find the Zone Number displayed on the parking sign nearest to your parking spot. The Zone Number is a four-digit number. Then send an SMS message to 0419 962 119 with the following commands:
If there is only one vehicle registered to your PayStay account:
Start Message: PARK [Zone Number]
Stop Message: STOP
If there are multiple vehicles registered to your PayStay account, you must tell us which one is parked:
Start Message: PARK [Zone Number] [Vehicle Registration]
Stop Message: STOP [Vehicle Registration]
You can pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Visa, Mastercard and AMEX including Click to Pay.
PayStay is designed to ensure you pay for the time you actually park, rather than paying for more time. The start and stop model offered by the PayStay app allows you to start your session when you park your car and then stop your session when you finish parking.
With the PayStay app, there is no need to guess how long you may need or to go back and extend a parking session. You simply pay for what you use. (Keep in mind, you’re always required to comply with any time-limits or other parking restrictions in your parking area.)
When using the PayStay Guest feature at our blue, Touch N Go virtual meters our QR codes on the parking meters, you must specify the exact time you’d like to park and pay for that time, the same way you would with a parking meter.
There are five options for starting a parking session:
- Use the PayStay app to start your session. This option is recommended.
- Scan a QR code and follow the prompts on screen
- Log in to paystay.com.au.
- Contact the PayStay Call Centre on 1300 322 111.
- Pay via SMS. First find the Zone Number displayed on the parking sign nearest to your parking spot (the Zone Number is a four digit number) Then, Send an SMS message to 0419 962 119 with the following commands:
If there is only one vehicle registered to your PayStay account:
Start Message: PARK [Zone Number]
Stop Message: STOP
If there are multiple vehicles registered to your PayStay account, you must tell us which one is parked:
Start Message: PARK [Zone Number] [Vehicle Registration]
Stop Message: STOP [Vehicle Registration]
This may be due to an expired credit card associated with your PayStay account, or insufficient funds being available to top up your PayStay account. Please contact the PayStay Call Centre on 1300 322 111.

The PayStay app service is designed to automatically top up accounts that are running low. During registration for PayStay you are prompted to enter a “Top Up Amount” and a “Low Balance Threshold”. When your account balance falls below the “Low Balance Threshold”, your credit card will be debited by your “Top Up Amount”.
Both the “Top Up Amount” and “Low Balance Threshold” amounts are nominated by you during registration.
Yes, you can change your Low Balance Threshold and your Top Up Amount at any time, by logging into your PayStay Account at paystay.com.au and selecting Payment & Balance Details from the user menu.

If you use PayStay’s app, you can start and stop your parking session, paying only for the exact time you park. This helps reduce the fee compared to a traditional meter. With the PayStay app you can also:
- Use your phone instead of a parking meter to pay digitally instead of with coins
- View a timer with accurate information on when your parking will expire
- Find which areas have more available parking spaces
- Choose to receive reminders of when your parking session will end
PayStay’s app has a few handy features to help you keep track of your parking sessions.
- Active sessions: When you start a parking session, you can view the active session in the app, including the start and expected end time. You can also stop a session directly from session screen in the app, so you only pay for how long you stay.
- Reminders to help you avoid overstaying:
- You can set up push notifications to alert you 30 minutes before your session ends (if your session is longer than 30 minutes) and when your parking expires. Both free of cost.
- A text reminder 10 minutes before your session ends for $0.34 per SMS.
- Driving reminder: This free feature automatically alerts you if the app detects you’re driving over 30 km per hour, reminding you to end your session if you’ve left your parking spot during an active session.
Yes. You can turn off reminders before starting a session in the app:
- Before tapping ‘Start parking’, look for the blue text above this that says
‘Reminders are enabled, fees may apply’.
- Tap that text and toggle reminders off for that session.
Or disable reminders permanently via the app or the website. This means you will not receive reminders for your parking sessions. If you do this, it means you will also opt-out of our free push notifications that alert you 30 minutes before your session ends (if your session is longer than 30 minutes) and when your parking expires.
There is a service fee for payments made with PayStay. The fee is 8.25% of the parking fee (inclusive of GST). You’ll see the total cost of your parking session (including this transaction fee) on screen when you start a parking session.
There are fees associated with parking management.
The service fee covers PayStay’s parking app support, payment processing, PayStay’s Australian-based call centre, system development and maintenance, website operations, and essential admin tasks. It also helps cover carrier and hosting costs, ensuring everything runs smoothly when you use PayStay.
When you start a new parking session, you’ll be able to see the total cost of your parking session including the service fee on screen. You can see a breakdown of fees in PayStay. Simply tap the ⓘ button next to the calculated fee below the duration slide-bar.
