Financial Assistance Scheme to help community

Spreyton Cricket Club is one club that has benefited from Devonport City Council’s Financial Assistance Scheme, and they’re encouraging others to do the same.

But first, they have to apply!

Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman encouraged community groups, clubs and organisations to apply for financial support through round two of the 2022-2023 Financial Assistance Scheme.

Cr Jarman said not-for-profit community organisations and associations may be eligible to apply for up to $25,000 in funding, with the scheme aimed at supporting the delivery of important projects and programs for the benefit of Devonport residents.

“Community groups, clubs and organisations promote social inclusion, which is important for the community’s health and wellbeing. The grant scheme is one way in which Council can assist them in this vital work’’ Cr Jarman said.

“Organisations can meet with Council staff in person or over the phone to discuss their application. If people find forms a little overwhelming, they can always complete it in sections by choosing the “save and continue” button – it will send you a link to complete the form later.”

Spreyton Cricket Club President Adrian Connell said the club was a proud recipient of the Financial Assistance Scheme and encouraged other clubs and organisations to apply.

“Over the last few years, we have successfully received Council grants to assist us with replacing cricket nets, club house windows and our current project is to improve energy efficiency,” Mr Connell said.

“We have always had a good working relationship with Council, and I would recommend the process to other Devonport community groups.”

Applications for Council’s major and minor grants are now open and close on Tuesday, 28 February. You can find the guidelines and application forms for the major and minor grants on Council’s website at https://www.devonport.tas.gov.au/live/your-community/grants/major-minor-grants/ [1] or email [email protected] [2] if you have any questions.
