Hazardous Waste disposal event
Households across the Cradle Coast can safely clean out old and unwanted laundry, hobby, home and garden chemicals and bring them for safe disposal at a series of Waste Transfer Station events this Spring and Summer.
The Cradle Coast Waste Management Group (CCWMG) has organised 12 drop-off events as a free service for residents. Residents from anywhere within the seven council areas of Waratah-Wynyard, Circular Head, Burnie, Central Coast, Devonport, Latrobe and Kentish are welcome to attend any of the events. (View all drop-off dates and locations here)
Items accepted at the events include:
• solvents and household cleaners;
• floor care products;
• ammonia-based cleaners;
• pesticides and herbicides;
• poisons;
• pool chemicals;
• hobby chemicals; and
• acids and alkalis.
Unused chemicals pose a risk in landfill and are not permitted in kerbside recycling. The free events are the best way to dispose of household chemicals that are no longer needed or are beyond their use by date.
- Please note:
> No early or late drop-offs can be accepted. Residents are encouraged to talk with neighbours or friends to arrange shared delivery if unable to attend at the scheduled times.
> Individual items brought for disposal must be no larger than 20 kilograms or 20 litres each.
These household hazardous waste events are made possible by a voluntary waste levy recovered at three council-owned landfills in North West Tasmania. All levy funds are reinvested by the Cradle Coast Waste Management Group in services across the region to reduce landfill waste and improve the recovery of re-usable materials.
