Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Station Launched in the CBD multi-level carpark

Devonport’s multi-story carpark is now home to a fully operational electric vehicle (EV) fast charging station, funded by a $50,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government through the Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants Program.

Devonport City Council Mayor, Councillor Annette Rockliff said, “Having a public, fast electric vehicle charging station in Devonport is a valuable addition for both residents and visitors to the City.

“It is hoped the charging station will support the growing number of EVs in Tasmania and provide a convenient option for visitors to the state on extended travel.

“This initiative further supports Council’s objective of taking action to reduce carbon emissions and have a positive impact on the environment.”

Under a contract with Council, Electric Highway Tasmania has installed and will operate the charger, being responsible for all expenses and revenue generated from the charger.

Charging will remain free until the 1st January 2021, at which time credit card payments will be accepted or there will be the ability to use the ChargeFox mobile application to make charging easy and accessible to everyone. The site will also be supported with CCTV to protect vehicle on charge, as well as technical support should any driver be in need.

Clive Attwater of Electric Highway Tasmania responded “I would like to thank the Devonport City Council and staff for their positive and helpful approach to making the project a success. We are looking forward to a long and successful partnership at this site.”

The charging station will form a part of a statewide network allowing drivers of electric vehicles to explore our State, including the North West Coast.
