Dog agility area up and running

Devonport City Council has opened a dog agility area at the eastern end of the dog exercise park on Steele Street near the Splash Aquatic Centre.

After many requests from park users, Council included the agility area in last year’s Capital Works budget.

Council approached local community groups and businesses to see if there was any interest with assisting.

As a result, Hudson Civil Products, Beaurepaires Devonport and Zanes Bikes and Bits kindly donated some additional materials.

The Devonport Men’s Shed also took up an offer to construct the equipment at their Middle Road facility.

A water drinking fountain will be installed near the park entrance on the western boundary which can be easily accessed by users of the park and people using the Don track network.

After attending Thursday afternoon’s opening, Mayor Annette Rockliff said she was sure the facility would prove popular.

“There are certainly a lot of dog owners in Devonport who are keen to give their animals more exercise than a gentle stroll and this venue will prove very popular in helping local dogs to let of a bit of steam,” she said.

It is also great to se the amount of community involvement in the development of the agility area and I wish to thank the companies who became involved as well as the Men’s Shed.”
