Devonport to celebrate Harmony Day in Market Square

Following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event, Devonport will celebrate Harmony Day on Friday 20 March with a range of cultural activities planned for Market Square.

This event is for the whole community and a chance to get together with friends and family and celebrate the city’s diversity.

The day will feature a Citizenship Ceremony and a range of food vendors will offer different international cuisine. Children’s activities along with dance and entertainment are planned for the late afternoon and early evening.

The celebrations will begin at 4 pm with a Citizenship Ceremony welcoming new residents to Devonport and activities will run through until 8 pm.

Mayor Annette Rockliff said the celebrations provides an excellent opportunity for residents to rejoice in the broad range of cultures present in Devonport.

“Devonport is truly fortunate to have so many people from different cultures sharing our city,’’ she said.

“Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values”.

“Let’s come together with friends and family and our wider communities to celebrate our diversity”.

Cr Rockliff said attendees were encouraged you to wear something orange or cultural dress to our event to show support for Harmony Day.
