Position Purpose:

Location: Devonport City Council Waste Transfer Station – Bay Drive Spreyton
Employment Type: Full Time – 9 day fortnight
Classification: Level 3
Salary: From $65,648 + 13% superannuation

Devonport City Council is seeking a motivated and customer‑focused Waste Management Customer Service Officer to join our Waste Management team.

This hands-on role plays an important part in delivering an efficiently run waste facility that supports our community and promotes waste minimisation and sustainability. Based at the Spreyton Waste Transfer Station, you will provide courteous and professional service while ensuring the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the site. You will also contribute to general yard maintenance and operations, and operate equipment such as ride-on mower, front-end loader, and undertake truck driving duties as part of a multi skilled team.  Relevant licences or qualifications are desirable but not essential.  This position requires availability to work a fortnightly weekend roster.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality customer service to internal and external customers
  • Operate the computerised weighbridge system, issue receipts, and handle cash transactions
  • Inspect incoming waste loads and direct vehicles to appropriate unloading areas
  • Educate customers on waste separation and ways to minimise waste to landfill
  • Direct traffic safely around the facility
  • Assist with general yard maintenance, clean-ups, and operational tasks
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and support continuous improvement
  • Operate and maintain plant and equipment such as rise-on mower and front-end loader,  in accordance with Council procedures
  • Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety requirements
