Build Nature in Devonport

About the Project

Devonport City Council is developing a new Build Nature In Strategy to guide how trees, vegetation and green spaces are planned, protected and enhanced across the city.

This project is being developed in partnership with the University of Tasmania and Inspiring Place Consultants, with a strong focus on community and stakeholder input.

WORD Participant Recruitment Contact Letter – 28 May 2026

The Build Nature In project aims to better understand how people who live and work in Devonport:

  • Feel about trees and urban vegetation
  • Value existing green spaces
  • Would like to see the city develop in the future

Feedback will inform a long term strategy to improve Devonport's urban forest and ensure it meets community needs. The work also considers how trees and green spaces can help respond to challenges such as climate change, heat and liveability.

Project partners: University of Tasmania • Inspiring Place Consultants

Why This Matters

Trees and vegetation play an important role in our city. They can:

Help reduce heat and improve comfort in urban areas
Support environmental health and biodiversity
Enhance community wellbeing and create more attractive public spaces
Contribute to climate change resilience

Workshop discussions will explore both the benefits and potential challenges of increasing tree canopy across Devonport.
