Under the Dog Control Act 2000 you are required to apply for a Kennel Licence if you intend to keep:
· More than two dogs over the age of six months; or
· More than four working dogs over the age of six months
You can apply for a Kennel Licence by completing the following steps:
1. Complete a Kennel Licence Application
2. Complete a Notice of Intent Application - you are required to pay the prescribed fee issued by the newspaper.
FAQ’s:
· Council has 28 days after a notice of intent has been published to consider a licence application and consider any written objections that may have been received. If the application satisfies all criteria’s, a Kennel Licence will be issued and payment for the application will then be made. From then on, a renewal form and request of a renewal fee will be sent out from July 1st each year.
· All dogs over 6 months of age must be registered and microchipped for a licence to be issued.
· You do not necessarily have to own all the dogs. If all dogs are kept on one property, then a licence is required.
· A Kennel Licence may be issued with conditions and is for a set number of dogs.
· Council reserves the right to cancel a Kennel Licence for failure to comply with the conditions attached or if it is in public interest. Four weeks’ notice will be given.
· Licences are required to be renewed annually. The Renewal is not required to be advertised; however, a variation to the number or breed of dogs may need to be.
· A Kennel Licence is not transferrable to another property.
· No breeding, training or boarding without a planning permit.
