Trade Waste

Running a business and need to know about liquid waste disposal? This is the right place for all enquiries about trade waste.

What is Trade Waste?

Trade waste is any liquid waste that's discharged into the sewer system from business, industrial, or trade activities. It's different from standard domestic wastewater from kitchens or bathrooms.

Proper management of trade waste is essential to protect our city's sewer infrastructure and the environment from blockages, corrosion, and harmful contaminants.

Who Does This Affect?

Many businesses need a Trade Waste Permit before they can discharge liquid waste. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Food businesses (cafes, restaurants, takeaways, butchers)

  • Vehicle workshops (mechanics, car washes, panel beaters)

  • Personal services (hairdressers, laundromats)

  • Industrial and manufacturing operators

Use this service to ask about your responsibilities, the application process, or requirements for pre-treatment equipment like grease traps and oil interceptors.
