Mall / Market Square Permits

This section is for applying for a permit to use the Rooke Street Mall or Market Square for an event or activity. To ensure these important public spaces are managed safely and fairly for everyone, a permit is required to conduct most organised activities.


Activities Requiring a Permit

A permit is generally required for activities such as:

  • Busking and street performance.

  • Community group fundraising (e.g., sausage sizzles, raffles).

  • Commercial promotions or brand activations.

  • Setting up an information stall or display.

  • Public gatherings or rallies.


Application Requirements

All permit applicants are required to hold current Public Liability Insurance, and a copy of your Certificate of Currency will be required as part of the application process. Please ensure you submit your application with sufficient lead time before your proposed activity.

Event Promotion

If you are organising a local event, Council can help you reach a wider audience. This service allows you to submit your community event for promotion on Council's official channels.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for promotion, your event must be held within the Devonport municipal area and be open to the general public. Council reserves the right to review all submissions and approve them based on our event promotion guidelines to ensure suitability for our channels.


Promotional Channels

Approved events will be published on the official Events Calendar on Council's website. Depending on the nature of the event, it may also be considered for promotion on our social media channels or in other community communications.
