Celebrating learning for all with festival

You’re never too old to learn, is what Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff believes this year’s Festival of Learning will aim to prove.

And she’s calling on support for the month-long festival in September, which provides a wide range of learning opportunities in Devonport.

The Festival of Learning is an initiative of the Devonport Live and Learning Steering Group, which formed in 2015 to help guide the City’s future opportunities and develop Devonport into a place to both ‘live and learn’.

“Learning can be done through so many different pathways, and we can’t wait to see what the people of Devonport have to offer for this year’s festival,” Cr Rockliff said.

“While the Festival of Learning focuses on certain categories, organisers are open to hearing from anyone with ideas on how they could be part of the festival.”

Categories include:

  • Wellbeing and self-care
  • Culture and diversity
  • Environment and sustainability
  • The arts
  • The world of work
  • STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics)
  • Food, nutrition, and cooking
  • Sport, recreation and active living
  • Life skills.

“If you’re a service provider, club, organisation, business, or anyone who provides an opportunity for others to learn, we want to hear from you,” Cr Rockliff said.

“Learning something new and having a go is exactly what this festival is focussed on, and we want our community to embrace life-long learning.

“This not only motivates the individual, but it has the potential to inspire others, which in turn can be a great experience for all involved.”

Cr Rockliff encouraged those interested in being part of the festival to submit an expression of interest to Devonport City Council by 5pm on Friday, 29 July 2022 by emailing [email protected] or call 03 6424 0511.
