Call for Volunteers Week nominations

Devonport volunteers will have the chance to be officially recognised for their contribution to the community, for this year’s National Volunteers Week from16-22 May.

Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff called for members of the public to nominate local volunteers that give their time selflessly to the city of Devonport.

Cr Rockliff said to celebrate the volunteers within the community, Council will again provide certificates of recognition.

“Volunteers Week is an opportunity to celebrate every helping hand that makes a difference in Devonport,” Cr Rockliff said.

“As Mayor I have been lucky to see firsthand the benefit of volunteers both for organisations and individuals. And as this year’s Volunteers Week theme suggests, we truly are ‘better together’.

Devonport Community House Manager Kate Beer said volunteers play an important part in neighbourhood houses.

“Neighbourhood houses are able to offer what they do for their community because we have a core of volunteers meeting and greeting, sharing their skills, listening and empathising, and caring enough to make the ordinary day-to-day lives of people feel a little more special.

“It’s our community’s greatest asset.
