Fences between Private Properties

Boundary fences between neighbouring properties are the owners responsibility for erecting and repair.

Disputes between neighbours – Neighbours do not always see eye to eye. From time to time a problem will arise which need to be resolved. These problems can be varied and putting up or repairing a fence between properties is a common one. These types of problems can be sorted out if the neighbours concerned communicate with each other and know what to do if a difference of opinion arises.

The Boundary Fences Act and You

The Boundary Fences Act 1908 tells us what the law is in Tasmania for erecting and repairing boundary fences.

If your property is next to Council owned land, you may be eligible for a contribution to the cost of fencing. Please submit a request here.
