Tree Maintenance
Council recognises the importance of tree maintenance and hence implements a regular maintenance program to maintain our trees. To notify Council of any tree maintenance issues contact Council Reception on 6424 0511.
Pruning
Trees in Devonport's residential streets are pruned on an as needs basis. Pruning is carried out to promote good health, shape and vigour and to ensure that branches are clear of roads, footpaths and powerlines.
Watering
Council's Parks team waters newly planted trees throughout spring and summer for the first two years until the trees become established.
Weeds and Mulch
Council places mulch around newly planted trees to reduce the likelihood of weeds competing with tree roots. Council endeavours to keep weeds down during the establishing years by re-mulching as needed.
Tree Roots
Tree roots on occasions lift footpaths which causes a trip hazard for pedestrians. Council's long term approach to managing this problem includes:
- Selecting tree species which are appropriate to the local area;
- Pruning roots and installing root barriers; and/or
- Using alternative footpath surfaces.
