Sister Cities

The Sister Cities program aims to provide a cultural, economic and educational interchanges between communities and to encourage friendship, co-operation and understanding to improve peaceful co-existence worldwide.

The City of Devonport has had a formal Sister City agreement with Minamata City in Japan since 1996. It is also a member of the Sister Cities Australia the national association of towns, shires, cities, ports and States that have Sister City affiliations.

The Devonport Sister City Association is the driving force behind community involvement in sister cities activities. The Association meet on a monthly basis. Part of the group's activities include displays of Japanese cultural items around the City and projects between Devonport and Minamata schools.
