Review of Devonport CBD Structure Plan Underway
A review of the Devonport Central Business District Structure Plan has recently commenced. The review will take into account changes in land use and trading patterns over the last 12 years, and will focus on land use planning, traffic, parking and economic issues. The review builds on the work undertaken in the recent Economic Baseline and Retail Studies.
The Project, being undertaken by planning consultants Aurecon and economic consultants Matters More, will guide major changes to land use, built form and public spaces in order to achieve sustainability objectives for Devonport’s CBD.
It will consider appropriate land use planning precincts, economic vitality, the appearance of the town centre, movement through the town and linkages to the river. Suitable sites for large scale developments will also be identified.
The Structure Plan review will include extensive consultation with key stakeholders across the business community and the general public.
Devonport City Council’s Manager of Development Services, Rebecca Wilson said the reviewed Structure Plan would provide a long term vision for the CBD.
“The review will consider appropriate changes to the existing Structure Plan and will set a planning and development framework and provide a guide for future development,” Ms Wilson said. “This will ensure the continued prosperity of Devonport’s CBD.”
