Theme: Celebrate how everyone makes a difference
National Families Week 2009 will be held from Sunday 10 May to Saturday 16 May 2009 (coinciding with UN International Day of Families on Friday 15th May and Mothers Day on May 10) and is Australia’s main annual celebration of the importance of families, the main aim of the week is to encourage all Australians to think about and celebrate the many different people who make families united and strong and the many different families across society, each deserving respect and acknowledgement.
Devonport City Council, through its Building Families initiative which focuses on children aged 0 – 12 years, is planning a week of events to celebrate National Families Week this year and have been kindly supported by Devonport City Promotions.
This year Devonport City Council has invited Devonport Businesses and organisations to offer specials or discounts to families and children throughout the City for that week. Whether it is a discount sale, children eat free or promoting a baby club – we asked that they let their imagination run wild. The aim of the Week is to celebrate and highlight the critical role of families in shaping our community, so any opportunity that a business could provide was welcomed.
This National Families Week, we’re encouraging everyone to explore ways in which they can recognise, value and support the people who make a difference to the wellbeing of their family. People could say thanks to a family member who has made a difference, do something with their family that helps others, take time to reflect on who makes up their family, take a walk or play a game and have some fun together.”
“Families are stronger if they share time together, doing things that strengthen family life”.
