Riding on the back of the news that local company, VOS Construction & Joinery Pty Ltd have been approved by Council to undertake the redevelopment of the Devonport Aquatic Centre, is the official "Turning of the Sod" on site next Tuesday 5 June 2012.

Premier Lara Giddings will dig the first hole on what will be the largest single capital works project undertaken by Council to date. The $14m project will include an new indoor facility, comprising of a 25m 8 lane lap pool; a combined warm water/learn to swim/toddler pool with beach front entry; a gymnasium; multi-purpose program room; kiosk and new reception area; and upgraded wet and dry change rooms and toilets. The new indoor facility will compliment the existing outdoor 50m lap pool, water slide and bush land surrounds.

The turning of the sod will be conducted at 11.30am at the Devonport Aquatic Centre, at the end of Steele Street near the Don Reserve.
