We recognise that small businesses are a significant contributor to our economy which is set to expand with the role out of the National Broadband Network (NBN) and social trends towards self employment and working locally.

There are many benefits to working this way – you reduce your commuting and can spend more time enjoying beautiful Devonport.

Small Business Training

Council, TasTAFE, Devonport Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. regularly hold seminars, workshops and mentoring programs for small and micro businesses.

Planning Considerations

A home business is defined as either Home Occupation or a Home Based Business in the Devonport Interim Planning Scheme 2013 and you must comply with its requirements.

Please also refer to our Working from Home Fact Sheet(PDF, 244KB) for further information.

Personal Trainers

You're allowed to train groups at most of our reserves. You will need to submit an Application for Casual Use of Parks & Reserves Form(PDF, 206KB) and provide Council with a copy of your Public Liability Insurance Certificate of Currency.
