Youth Reclaim the Lane for National Youth Week
Published on 20 March 2017
For its sixth consecutive year, Reclaim the Lane returns to Rooke Lane for National Youth Week in Devonport on Friday 7 April, 3.30–5.30 pm. The free event transforms Rooke Lane into a vibrant celebration of youth arts and music for all ages to enjoy.
The event is organised each year by the Devonport Regional Gallery and their young members, the Droogs, in partnership with Youth, Family and Community Connections.
‘Reclaiming’ the entire laneway between Steele and Stewart Streets, the event showcases the talents of young people and features various art-making and music workshop spaces, young makers selling their wares, live music by young local performers, a photo booth and interactive stalls by youth service providers. Free food also available.
Street artist, KT Hollywood (aka Katie Houghton-Ward) is this year’s Reclaim the Lane artist and she will be creating a new work for the lane at Haven Yoga. Visitors to Rooke Lane will see KT Hollywood in action as she creates the work over the course of the day, completing it by 5.30 pm at the event.
This year, Reclaim the Lane will feature young performance artists Mr Inferno and Jayden Mineur, visual artist Rachel Kumar and young musicians from Don College and Geneva Christian School. Young musician Grace Maher will be joined by music veteran Brad Von Rock to deliver an interactive jam session at the Steele Street end of the lane.
