Mayor Martin

Children are heading back to school this week, so please make sure you are extra vigilant on the roads, especially during school drop off and pick up times. Slow down in school zones, follow the instructions of crossing guards and be on the look-out for school buses with flashing lights – if the lights are flashing slow down to 40km if you’re within 50m of the bus.

The Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay comes to Devonport tomorrow. Various roads will be closed throughout the relay so please be mindful while on the road and try to avoid the relay route if possible. As this is the first day of school it is important to highlight that traffic around St Brendan Shaw College, Nixon Street Primary School and Devonport High School will be particularly affected during the hours of 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

As part of the 2018/19 budget consultation process Council is inviting community members to put forward your ideas for projects and initiatives which you feel will benefit the community. This allows you to have direct input into the Council’s budget and decision-making process.  Every suggestion made will be considered by Council on its merits, as part of the annual budgeting cycle.

The consultation process has proven successful in the past. We have already implemented several projects that were suggested by community members in previous budget consultation processes. The projects include the construction of an enclosed dog exercise area, providing lighting along sections of Victoria Parade and improving the Middle Road/Bass Highway off ramp.

Ideas can be submitted through www.speakupdevonport.com.au, by emailing council@devonport.tas.gov.au or in writing to PO Box 604, Devonport TAS 7310. The consultation period closes on Monday 5 March 2018.
