It is just over a month until the 2019 Devonport Jazz Festival will begin.

To be held from 25-28 July, this year’s Festival will be headlined by the great multi-instrumentalist James Morrison and is brimming with acts from Tasmania and the mainland, which will please both jazz lovers and the general public.

Other exciting elements of the Festival include the Squeezebox Cabaret (complete with a meal, dance troupe and big band), sensational traditional band The Syncopators, the RAN Jazz Ensemble Melbourne, the ABC Radio live broadcast, a schools’ tour and Pure Jazz Sessions.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through participating venues or the paranaple arts centre. Or for the full festival experience you can purchase a festival pass for just $199 which gives access to more than 20 events.

Full event details can be found at the Devonport Jazz website

A reminder that you only have until tomorrow to have your say on when you would like the Devonport Show Day Public Holiday to be held post 2020.

The Devonport City Council is currently seeking input from the community regarding a shift of the public holiday from the last Friday in November – formerly Devonport Show Day – to an alternate day, given the Show no longer operates.

While the final decision will be made by the State Government, and Council has no power to determine the date, Council believes it is important that the community has some say in the decision-making process.

The public can express their view by choosing between five options:

  • The Thursday of Agfest (the first Thursday in May)
  • A date between July and the end of September
  • The Friday of the Devonport Jazz Festival
  • The Friday before the AFL grand final or;
  • As it currently is (the last Friday in November)

You can visit the Speak Up Devonport page on Council’s website to access the survey.
