It is estimated that there could be less than 1000 Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagles remaining in the world, but exactly how many remains unclear.
Devonport residents are being invited again to play a part by helping to count the diurnal birds of prey.
Following the success of last year’s count by NatureTrackers – a Bookend Trust program aiming to help everyday people assess the health of threatened species - to monitor the eagles another count is planned over the weekends of 10-12 May and 24-26 May.
The Council is facilitating a workshop for NatureTrackers on Saturday 27 April at the Tasmanian Arboretum, at Eugenana, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., where the methodology of the survey will be explained by Clare Hawkins, from the Bookend Trust. Wildlife expert Nick Mooney will also be on hand to share his knowledge.
It will also include a stroll around the Arboretum grounds to practice binocular skills. So, bring your binoculars, if you have them, to practice identifying the birds.
Lunch will also be provided.
To RSVP contact council by email email@example.com or 6424 0511.
For those people or organisations who wish to lay a wreath at the Devonport Anzac Day 11.00 a.m. service, you are asked to register with Council by midday Wednesday 24 April.
Wreath layers can either call 6424 0511 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Devonport City Council wishes to advise Devonport residents about changes to waste collections over the Easter holiday period.
Residents whose waste and/or recycling bins would normally be collected Friday, 19 April 2019 will have their bins collected a day earlier than normal, on Thursday, 18 April 2019.
With Council’s waste management teams starting bin collections during the Easter period this week and next, all residents are requested to put their bins out the ‘night before’ their collection day.
The trading hours for Council facilities during the Easter and Anzac Day period can be found here.
