Council’s newest car park will be open to the public from 12noon this Friday (8 December) and will offer free parking for the first week.

Devonport Mayor Steve Martin said, “Council was originally offering free parking for the first weekend of operation, and we are pleased to announce that we are extending that offer to include the first week.”

“With Christmas fast approaching we want to offer some Christmas cheer, and to encourage as many people as possible to shop locally. We also want to provide an opportunity for the public to get to know the facility.”

“Everyone may not have the opportunity to try it out over the weekend, so by extending the free parking timeframe we are giving more people that chance.”

The CBD Car Park offers over 500 car spaces, including plenty of disabled spaces on the lower level. It is operational 24 hours a day, with some undercover parking and all day parking options on the top level. CCTV cameras are installed throughout and there will be a security presence after hours.

Once fully operational, the first 30 minutes will be free, and then a $1.00 per thirty minutes fee applied, increasing in 30 minute increments. Therefore the first hour will be $1.00 and 90 minutes will be $2.00.  There is also an all-day parking rate of $5.00 on the top level of the car park.

The above rates apply Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm and a $2.00 flat fee applying after 6pm and on weekends.
