Devonport City Council is encouraging residents to lend a hand and help keep Devonport looking its best by supporting Clean Up Australia Day.
Devonport Acting Mayor Annette Rockliff said, “Clean Up Australia Day has always been well supported by the Devonport community and we hope that this year will be no different.”
“There will be various Clean Up Australia Day events happening within the community on Sunday 4 March 2018 and as a prelude to the day, Council will be holding a Clean Up event on Friday 2 March at the East Devonport Foreshore (Melrose Street), followed by a lunchtime barbeque.”
“Council is always impressed by the level of commitment shown by the volunteers each year and we believe it is a reflection of pride that Devonport residents have in their local environment.”
“We’re encouraging residents to volunteer a few hours of their time at a site that is special to them.”
Other sites include Patricks Bay in Ambleside, The Bluff, and McDonalds (Best Street and Homemakers Centre. A full list of local clean-up sites is available at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au.
For safety, all volunteers are asked to wear a hat, sunscreen and sun protective clothing.
Volunteers can register to join Council’s Clean Up Australia Day event at the East Devonport Foreshore (Melrose Street), which will be held on Friday 2 March from 10am to 12noon, followed by a free bbq lunch. Those interested in helping out should contact Council on 6424 0511 or email email@example.com.
